A lactation counselor is a certified health professional who specializes in breastfeeding issues and helping families overcome those challenges.
During your prenatal breastfeeding visit, we will talk about your goals, concerns and how the process of breastfeeding unfolds after your baby is delivered. We will discuss the importance of skin-to-skin, feeding within the first hour, signs of a successful latch and how to maintain, as well as the many health benefits for both you and your baby through breastfeeding. This visit is for expecting mothers/parents, whether it is your first child, second child, or any thereafter, this visit is open to anyone looking for some guidance.
*Infant massage basics can be taught and are included if you are interested.
During this one hour visit, we will talk about any issues and concerns you or your baby are experiencing. Together, we will formulate a plan that you are comfortable with to help resolve those issues. Topics may include: latch, engorgement, sore nipples, low milk supply, fast let-down, mastitis, positioning and more.
